a. Training will be Tuesday and Thursday from 5-6:30, for now. As the program grows, discussions will take place about increasing the number of practice days on a case by case basis.
3. Are swim meets mandatory?
a. No they are not. Meets will be up to each individual to sign up for and to participate in. The level of participation is up to the swimmer and family. There is an option to suspend your account with the Hurricanes during other school sports or events, or otherwise busy times.
4. Advantages to being a USASwim member?
a. The biggest benefit to being USA Swimming is the professional coaching that is available and the resources that are included in the membership. Each coach is up to date on lifeguarding, coaching safety training, concussion protocols, and athlete protection training. Additionally, coaches are required to complete USA swimming education requirements in order to maintain eligibility as a coach. These educational criteria range from the basics of stroke techniques all the way up to the physiology of training athletes.
These are the specific aspects of “professional coaching” that constitute the main difference between USA Swimming and other organizations.
Additionally, having USA swimming sanctioned meets are documented and saved in the SWIMS database through their whole career. So should your swimmer desire to swim in college, it is this database that any college (D1, D2, or D3) would refer to this database recruiting your swimmer.
If a family moves locations to a different city or state, and wishes to join a swim team, many areas will only have USA swim teams, making an easy transition to a new team, as their record of performance can be easily located in the same database.
The growth of an individual in a team setting can be profound, and our aim is to make swimming a huge part of what develops them as a person, both in and out of the pool. By participating in team functions like practices, swim meets, and special events throughout the season, the personal drive and achievement of their goals can impact their lives forever.
And lastly, the USA Swimming membership fee includes the best in class insurance coverage while on a swim team.
Message from Jordan Kuper, Head Coach:
a. As head coach, this is my full time job. There is nothing else, aside from normal family obligations, that takes my time and thoughts away from the job. There are constant thoughts and actions that are solely geared towards running the team and providing everything we can as an organization. All practices are pre planned and never wasted. Keeping together a focused staff with the same values is always a priority to me. We have staff meetings to ensure we are all on the same page in areas like stroke instruction procedures, schedules, meet preparations, group cohesiveness and flow, and many other areas. So as a final piece from the coaching side- there is so much collective time put into the day to day, week to week of running our swim club, that the investment and functioning of it is what keeps the Hurricanes as a premier youth sports organization in the area! - Jordan Kuper
Who are our coaches?

b. Lori Royal - Idaho Springs Lead Coach
c. Bell Sleeper - Idaho Springs Assistant Coach
