Established in 1979, the Clear Creek Metropolitan Recreation District (CCMRD) is a special recreation district located in the historic mining center of Colorado covering roughly 45 square miles and includes the mountain communities of Idaho Springs, Georgetown, Empire, Dumont, Downieville, Lawson, Silver Plume and Floyd Hill as well as surrounding rural areas. The District strives to work cooperatively with other government and nonprofit organizations to enhance the quality of life for residents of Clear Creek County through innovative recreation programs, service, events, and facilities, funded by a small mill levy. Our main offices are located at the beautiful Clear Creek Recreation Center at 98 12th Avenue in Idaho Springs. Our vision is “To Unite Communities through Cooperation and Commitment to Recreation Excellence."
The Recreation Center, located at 98 12th Avenue in Idaho Springs, is the hidden gem in Clear Creek County. Following a complete renovation in 2016, the “Rec Center” offers members and visitors state of the art fitness equipment including cardio, Life Fitness weight machines, free weights, and a complete schedule of fitness classes. The CCMRD pool is a 6-lane, 25-yard pool with a one-meter diving board, wading pool, hot tub, enclosed slide, and lazy river. The aquatics staff provides learn to swim programs, swimming fitness classes, and special events including movies in the pool! Youth and adult recreation programs from dance to cornhole are offered and daily admission or membership options are available.
Idaho Springs Sports Complex is a host to youth and adult sports and diverse special events. The ISSC includes two sports fields and a stage. Youth soccer, softball and baseball leagues are held at the complex and adult sports inlcude softball and kickball.
Elmgreen Park is located adjacent to Clear Creek High School and Middle School. Elmgreen Park serves the Floyd Hill community, featuring diverse recreation assets including tennis, volleyball and youth playground.
PAW’s Education Research Trail (PERT), located just west of Empire, is an accessible trail that tells the history of the wagon road over Berthoud Pass. The trail was opened on September 30, 2013. Clear Creek Metropolitan Recreation District maintains the park.
